In the early 1800’s there was an extensive conspiracy, hatched by those held in bondage and their allies, aimed at destroying slavery in Virginia. “Gabriel’s Rebellion” and, several years later, the “Easter Plot” were two failed revolts of the era. This original c.1802 legal document details a court case related to these events. It specifically pertains to the trial of Jacob, a negro man being the property of Edward Tucker who, through insurrection, allegedly “facilitated the murder” Solomon, a negro man being the property of William Carr.
