This book illustration of the posh Highgate area of London is a late 19th c. wood engraving with hand color, after a drawing by Jean Baptiste-Claude Chatelain, an artist who flourished 1745 – 1758. Compared to steel engraving, wood engraving was a time-saving medium for creating illustrations of the era. Archivally framed here with a classic silver profile from Larson Juhl’s “Marquis” line, 100% cotton rag mat from Artique (Larson Juhl) with hand-painted silver French line, and 99% UV filtering “Conservation Clear” glass.

Ridwan Adhami (b.1985) was at the site of the World Trade Center documenting the five year anniversary of 9/11. He photographed Munira, a Muslim woman, wearing an American flag as a hijab. More than a decade later, Adhami and renowned artist Shepard Fairey (b.1970) reincarnated the image for Amplifier’s “We The People” campaign to push back against the bigotry and intolerance exhibited during the 2016 election. We’ve archivally displayed the signed collaborative print in Roma’s “Lavo” moulding and TruVue 99% UV filtering “Conservation” glass.
