“La Madonnina” (commonly know as the “Madonna of the Streets”) was painted by Roberto Ferruzzi (1853 – 1934) and won 2nd place in the Venice 1897 Biennale! Although not intended a religious painting, it was popularized as an image of the Virgin Mary holding her infant son, and is Ferruzzi’s most renowned work.
