Have a look at some of the work we recently framed for Philadelphia photographer Sara Allen, which will be included in her solo exhibition at Abington Art Center! The series will be on display from September 14th – October 23rd, 2023 with an artist talk on Saturday, September 30th from 10am – 12pm. About the show, AAC writes: “Sara Allen’s photographs capture the naturally aging body, with its creases, wrinkles, textures, and age spots. She frames the body in ways that make familiar parts, such as the neck, fingers, and back, feel like extraordinary foreign landscapes. Photographing in black in white allows for the viewer to appreciate the composition of each piece without the distraction of color.” Each piece is presented in a matte black moulding from Studio with Tru Vue Ultra Vue glass.

“Africa in Bloom #2” is a signed, limited edition photograph by local Philadelphia artist Michael K Wilson. About the piece, Wilson writes: “Africa in Bloom is an ongoing project which began in 2005, during my first trip to Ghana and Ethiopia. This photographic intervention is a visual response to the reference of Africa being “the Dark Continent ”, coined by explorer Henry Morton, in addition to Joseph Conrad’s 1899 novel “The Heart of Darkness”, who presumed Africa to be a void and mysterious land. These ahistorical narratives are reflected in the digitally altered black background, however emerging from them are beautiful flowers I came across during my time on the Continent. The various flowers symbolize the diverse abundant beauty that Africa has always produced since the dawn of civilization.” We archivally presented the photograph in a shiny pewter moulding from Roma’s “Lavo” collection, black matting from Bainbridge, and Tru Vue Museum glass.
