One of our clients recently brought in this brittle, broken newspaper article that was over one hundred years old! Because of the shape it was in, we wanted to make sure it wouldn’t degrade further, so we stabilized it by lining the back with Filmoplast R – an involved Conservator’s technique. In this completely archival method, the whisper thin Japanese tissue was cut just a bit smaller than the newspaper, then bonded in our heated vacuum table. We then float mounted the documents for the final presentation – a design that includes a moulding from Larson Juhl’s “Ansley” collection, matting from Crescent and Bainbridge and Tru Vue Museum glass.
