Picture framing is a highly visual and creative field, and we’re always looking to showcase our talent with interesting and compelling window displays. That’s why we decided to participate in the 2018 “Bloom Philly Festival,” the official countdown to the PHS “Philadelphia Flower Show.”
It was Matt (framer) who suggested the concept of succulent plants as wall art. After a bit of research and trial-and-error, we ultimately decided upon on a tiered potting system with a moss-filled catch basin. Jeremy (owner) is an avid hiker and accomplished photographer. We wanted to incorporate photos and items relating to state and local natural areas and water features. Our succulent “living frames” feature photos of a waterfall and beaver pond from the Loyalsock Trail of central Pennsylvania. In addition to the official “Wonders of Water” posters, we’ve included several WPA-style images of the Wissahickon Creek and Schuylkill River, as well as a map of the Wissahickon Trail. We tied everything together with a few smaller photos and some fun, trendy photo frames in contemporary acrylic.
While designing the display, it was our intention to keep a common theme of rustic mouldings to enhance the natural beauty of the photos, and highlight the plants in our innovative concept of “living frames.” We enjoyed working to bring several of Pennsylvania’s most wonderful waterways indoors to nurture and contemplate year round.
